Knaresborough Castle: Norman Castle badly damaged in the civil war. Its impressive ruins overlooking Nidd gorge are open to the public at certain times. Museum and gift shop.
Beningborough Hall: Large Georgian mansion near the village of Beningborough, north of York, and overlooks the River Ouse.
Ripley Castle: a working estate with lake, park and gardens. Home of Sir Thomas Ingleby – tour the Castle or explore the grounds and gardens.
Newby Hall: Gardens, children’s adventure playground and miniature railway.
Bolton Abbey and The Strid: lovely river and woodland walks and Augustinian Priory. Famous stepping stones across the river Wharf.
Castle Howard, near York: Think ‘Brideshead Revisited’ – beautiful setting.
Harewood House: 18th century house with art exhibitions, 100 acres of grounds, bird garden and adventure playground for children.
